UAE and The Netherlands sign agreements on extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Today the United Arab Emirates and The Netherlands signed two agreements to further improve the effectiveness of their co-operation in fighting crime and to facilitate extradition.

During a formal meeting in Abu Dhabi UAE Justice Minister Sultan Saeed Al Badi and Dutch Justice Minister Ferd Grapperhaus signed both agreements. They both reiterated the importance of effective co-operation between the judicial authorities of the two countries in criminal investigations, prosecutions and proceedings.

Both countries agree to extradite to the other any person within its territory who is sought for the purpose of carrying out criminal proceedings or executing a final sentence. The UAE and The Netherlands also agree to afford each other the widest measure of mutual legal assistance in criminal investigations, prosecutions or proceedings in criminal matters.

Both agreements were signed in the presence of high level representatives from the policy organisations and the public prosecution services. Hanneke Ekelmans, member of the board of the Dutch Police and Gerrit van der Burg, chairman of the Board of Prosecutors General and delegation leader of the Public Prosecution Service will enter into consultation with the local authorities from the UAE the next day.
